Homework
Homework packets are passed out every Monday with all other important information. Our homework packets can be identified by the cover sheet titled Home Education Bulletin. The cover sheet lists the daily assignments and well as other information parents should know. The spelling words are also included on the cover. Each night, students have four homework assignments. The assignments are to be torn from the back of the stapled packet, completed carefully, and turned in the next morning.
Math homework is one of the assignments. The nightly homework is often double sided and covers the lesson taught in class that day. Often, review questions from previous lessons will be included as well. At least once every two weeks, a practice test will be assigned to help prepare for the math test the following day. If students have difficulty completing the math assignments, please send them to math tutoring. Math tutoring is available every morning before school, beginning at 7:50 a.m.
Spelling is also included in the nightly homework. Monday night students will complete a two sided practice book page from their Houghton Mifflin program. Tuesday night's assignment is a word search. At times, there may be a grammar or reading comprehension assignemnt on the back of the word search. On Wednesday, students are to choose five words and write sentences using the words. The sentences should contain proper capitalization and punctuation. Thursday's assignment is spelling pyramids. This assignment is to be completed on the graph paper included in the packet.
The last two assignments are on a single sheet of paper. On the front is their nightly Reading Log. Students are to read for at least twenty minutes and docuemnt the book and number of pages read. Parents should should sign the log. On the back of the log is the nightly fluency practice. A parent or older sibling should time the student for one minute while they read the passage aloud. The number of words read per minute should be documented and signed by the parent. This paper is stamped and returned to the students each day. The Reading Log and fluency practice are the only assignments for the weekend. Reading is important!
